Can't we have TWO (only) clean main 'departments' like we had in the previous incarnation :- i.e a simple "Adverture games discussions" and "Off topics" or something similar clear cut and obvious even to morons like me ?
"What Do You Say, What Do You Know"
"With a Little Help From My Friends"
etc. are completely MEANINGLESS TO ME. Having taught Physics for so many years, clear short definitions and labels are absolutely essential e.g mass, weight, work, power, pressure, efficiency, current, potential, frequency, heat, temperature, entropy, etc. etc. Nearly all of these terms (e.g. work, power, pressure, efficiency) can have countless meaninigs in everyday life - but NOT in science where they have VERY STRICT PRECISE DEFINITIONS, not to be fudged !!

It took me about 15 minutes just to *FIND* the stuff I posted above !
    • So why not simple straightforward names which are obvious and clear for everybody ??

    Hi Len

We are open to new ideas give things a little chance to grow on you one way or the other. You can find out what any forum topic is by simply moving your mouse over it and a pop up will show you what that topic is about. As I have said already I am open to any suggestions and will consider all requests.

OK. The Options button takes me to another page.

    Kilroy,
I don't suppose it's possible to have the Preview button visible alongside the "Post Reply" and "Upload a File" buttons under the "quick post" box at the bottom of the forum page.

Can I make a suggestion please?
    1. Bring back the deleted posts and topics from the last month from the old forum and add them to the new forum. This will provide some continuity and allow us to get used to the new format through continuing the unfinished discussions, which I can understand needed to be changed. The old forums had sections rarely used like the Hot Spot and it didn't make sense to keep those.

    Hi Quester

I have tried that before we launched and it was a no go but let me see now if it is possible.

One (at least) EXTREMELY GOOD update.
On the previous forums if you wrote your post on MS-Word and pasted it onto your post you got all sorts of extraneous 'commands' littering your masterpiece and it was quite a hassle someimes to remove them.

I seems that now THERE IS NO PROB which is very good for folk like me who use Word a lot :) :)

Yes, this. At least make it less of a strange place to people who have been visiting JA for years and years and years....

My heart melted looking at that. I know my feelings are influenced from reminiscing about what once was, but the appearance of the Forum then seemed so... so clean.

Sigh. Wouldn't it be nice to have the best of both Forums: the look of the "heritage" Forum and the functionality of the current one.

P.S. Jenny: I recognize your black kitty cat from somewhere. I think it's from the Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro folks, Studio Ghibli. Sure looks like it.

Perhaps from The Cat Returns? No, I don't think so. Ponyo? Nah.

    (!) I'm going to say it's from Kiki's Delivery Service !

Sure that would be great, but that would probably mean the admins have to write most of the forum software themselves, which is not an option i suppose

I am going to see if I can make your dream come true. Now I maybe able to make the skin close to the old forum. Maybe....

I strongly suspect your avatar is your granddaughter. You're so lucky to have grandkids while you're both still young and active enough to enjoy them. I've actually heard myself warning my son not to wait until his 30s... I'm looking at other people's babies and wondering if it's the HRT that makes me clucky or if everyone gets like this when their own grow up.

It used to be thought that it was only women's eggs that 'went off' with age but they now realise that men's ability to produce quality sperm also diminishes with age. And what fertility doctors consider as aged is 40 btw. Your generation is wasting their fertile youth getting established in careers, having holidays and making the lifestyle choice to delay parenthood. Afterall, there's always IVF.

IVF appears to be delivering the goods but the numbers are coming in now that such processes are producing higher than average numbers of children with Aspergers, Autism, chromosomal abnormalities and that's just the ones that make it - the majority of IVF cycles fail and a lot of pregnancies are aborted due to abnormalities. The article I read last week said more research is needed because the liquids they suspend the eggs in while doing the in vitro has never been tested to ensure it does not increase these risks - simply because such a test is impossible. (They'd have to conduct testing on human material which is illegal)

So all this cashed up fun that the 20 year olds regard as their extended teenage years comes back and bites you in the bum when you've grown up, settled down, and suddenly find you can't make a bub to put in the nursery after all.

I'm not saying everyone should have kids - I just think the illusion of eternal fertility needs to be seen for what it is. It really is possible to miss some boats.

    Very cute!

Kilroy, just the old articles back would be wonderful, I'm thinking...

Hmmm, having kids... a huge responsibility...

    Thanks Trav. :)

And yes of course your right Caroline, thats our sweet baby girl and we are crazy about her. I think once our own are all grown up we miss the babies and having grandchildren is probably one of the best things ever. IMHO. :)
Better than when you had your own, I guess your just more relaxed with them AND you dont have to be with them 24/7. Im very lucky at this time in my life that Im able to watch her while mommy works, 2-3 days a week ( dont think I could handle more than that anymore. lol! ) But shes a really good baby and we can only hope the next one is half as mellow and happy. If you check out my FB you can see her video in her swim class, its adorable, its really just about teaching them to be able to survive if they fall in water, so she can go under and flip over and float on her back until help can get to her.

Sheesh, grandparents sure can go on and on..............;)

She is darling, Grandma Helen! I believe grandparents are required to gush about their grandbabies.
